The Pinacoteca di Brera

The Pinacoteca di Brera is among the most prestigious in the world. Its assets include more than six hundred masterpieces of great artists: Mantegna, Giovanni Bellini, Gentile Bellini, Tintoretto, Ercole de’ Roberti, Piero della Francesca, Raphael and Caravaggio.
There are also religious works from the 19th century and recent acquisitions of modern works.
In the courtyard of the Palace is a bronze monument modeled by sculptor Antonio Canova and dedicated to Napoleon Bonaparte.
The Biblioteca Nazionale Braidense was founded by Empress Maria Theresa of Austria in 1770 and today comprises over a million volumes, incunabula and manuscripts.
Open to consultation by 1786, It is a general library, with a prevalence of literary texts, philosophy, history and social sciences.
